Walking football has become increasingly popular. It’s exactly what it sounds like – a standard game of football where players walk instead of run.
Woking Walking Football Club was formed after Covid by a small group of men who had played together prior to the pandemic. Membership has now grown to 87 including 26 ladies and we are always ready to welcome new members from the complete beginner to the seasoned “professional”.
Friendly practice sessions are held at the Woking Sportsbox on Saturday mornings and Monday evenings with a ladies’ session on Tuesday evenings. For those wishing a competitive game the club enters sides into the Surrey FA Midweek League including a mixed team, the Cove Sunday Winter League and two ladies’ teams into the Thames Valley Sunday League.
It’s the beautiful game you already know and love — but played entirely at walking pace. One foot must always be on the ground but walking briskly is allowed. Games are three touch, small sided on smaller pitches, contact is banned and the ball must be kept below head height. It’s fun, social and accessible for life. Our members have seen many benefits to their health, fitness and social benefits including making new friends.
